| Am I allowed to use my own definition, or do I have to use another source?

| Subject: Another source? 9/22/2009, 11:17 am | |
| Jeremy, I just read what you posted on the definition thread and that is exactly what I was looking for. As we discussed in class, definitions must come from a credible source. This prevents a debater from making up his or her own definition of a word to suit his own agenda. For example, If I were to personally define a cat as an irritating furry little creature that meows incessently, that would obviously be a slanted definition. As the negative speaker I would have an advantage if my opponent didn't contest my definition and attempt to re-define the debate with a more balanced and credible definition.
We will discuss this more in class on Thursday. I hope this helps for now. Mrs. Gray

| Subject: Affirmative Case homework 9/25/2009, 5:59 pm | |
| In class we discuss how to write an affirmative case for a debate. I gave everyone a handout of a "FRAMEWORK" which will assist you as you do so. I also posted this FRAMEWORK to the forum, this will allow you to copy and paste it into a document and then use it to write your affirmative case. You must do the thinking and the research and insert the required information into this framework and then post it to the approriate place on the forum. Don't just clip and paste what I gave you and neglect to "Insert" your value and your points. You have to think through your arguments for your specific resolution. For example if you are debating the Dog vrs. Car resolution, you will need to decide what value you are going to use to write your case on. You will have to develop your arguments for the affirmative side of the debate, that are related to this value. You will need to do research to find some quotes, or authoritative examples to support your points. You are writing your first debate speech. I tried to help you out and get you started with the framework, but the work doesn't stop there. Thanks Mrs. Gray | |

| Subject: Ty's question re homework 10/22/2009, 12:07 am | |
| In Class last Thursday I told everyone that I will be collecting your student work books. If you opted to save your book and do your homework assignments on paper I explained that your work would need to be compiled neatly into a binder or folder of some sort.
The syllabus says this: 10/15/2009 Delivery Read Ch. 8 Do Study guide pg. 147/148 10/22/2009
This would mean that you still had work to do in your student workbook to complete all the homework assignments.
I will be collecting all homework assignments tomorrow. If you have extenuating circumstances that prevent you from completing your homework please have your parents write me a note detailing this or give me a call.
Thanks Mrs. Gray
PS: The only students who are exempt from handing in their homework tomorrow are the four debaters. Theirs will be due the following week.
